Effectiveness of aid case study
One of the major points on the Paris Agenda on aid effectiveness was the negative effects of aid dispersion —too many donors, too many activities in too many recipient countries. In , Sweden launched an ambitious policy of concentrating its bilateral aid in certain groups of partner countries. This report revisits the arguments for why aid dispersion should be reduced and finds them, on balance, to be valid still. Mozambique is chosen as a case study due to its reputation as a forerunner on aid effectiveness and on mutual accountability in particular. In Mozambique, there is a well-developed mechanism and a certain amount of institutional capacity for the implementation of mutual accountability. The Swedish Government has incorporated much of the Paris Declaration in steering and policy documents and Sweden has been highly active in advancing the aid effectiveness agenda internationally.

In post-conflict settings, many state and non-state actors interact at the sub-national levels in rebuilding health systems by providing funds, delivering vital interventions and building capacity of local governments to shoulder their roles. Aid relationships among actors at sub-national level represent a vital lever for health system development. Abstract This qualitative explanatory case study assessed the influence of Official Development Assistance on selected health development indicators in Uganda between and by reviewing development partners' perceptions.
Aid effectiveness is the degree of success or failure of international aid development aid or humanitarian aid. Concern with aid effectiveness might be at a high level of generality whether aid on average fulfils the main functions that aid is supposed to have , or it might be more detailed considering relative degrees of success between different types of aid in differing circumstances. Questions of aid effectiveness have been highly contested by academics, commentators and practitioners: there is a large literature on the subject. Econometric studies in the late 20th century often found the average effectiveness of aid to be minimal or even negative. Such studies have appeared on the whole to yield more affirmative results in the early 21st century, but the picture is complex and far from clear in many respects.
